Frequently Asked Questions and First Time Advice

We’ve tried to answer a few of the common questions we are asked but we would be delighted to hear from you at anytime to answer any queries or questions you may have.

What is included in the hire charge as standard?

Your hire charge includes the following:

  • Unlimited UK mileage
  • Standard insurance for one driver within the permitted age range and meeting the standard insurance requirements
  • UK breakdown cover with the RAC
  • Membership of Camping and Caravanning Club providing access and discounts at all club campsites
  • Collection from Grange Over Sands or Oxenholme Lake District rail stations (if desired)

Your vans seem expensive.... I've seen cheaper on the web!

Sure, we are a little more expensive than many of the other hire companies however, please remember, our vehicles are all brand new, very reliable, very comfortable and fitted out to the highest standard. In addition we'd like to think we give you a customer service that is second to none!

What do I need to bring?

Our VW’s are equipped with all the basics and we like to think we’ve thought of most things therefore sleeping bags/quilt, pillow, toiletries and towels are the only essentials needed to compliment the standard equipment. As storage is a little limited we would advise to pack light.

The driver(s) must bring along both parts of their drivers license (photo card and paper sections) plus a second document as proof of permanent address (for example a utility bill dated within the last 3 months. If the addresses differ an additional proof of permanent address is also required.  We are sorry but to satisfy the terms of our insurance we cannot under any circumstances release the campervan until satisfactory proof of identity is provided.

The refundable security deposit if not pre-paid.

Can you provide bedding and towels?

If you wish us to supplying bedding, there are two options:

  • We can supply new sleeping bags and towels at an additional charge of £25 per person.  These are yours to keep after the hire period.
  • you can hire bedding (quilts, pillows and sheets) and towels at £25 per person.

If you require any of the above, please request at the time of booking.

Why do I need to pay a security deposit?

As the included insurance covers you in the event of a reported accident / collision, the fully refundable deposit is only used where damage is caused to the van during the hire period including interior fixtures and fittings or where the vehicle is returned in an unacceptable state of cleanliness.

Are my personal belongings covered in the campervan insurance?

No. We would recommend that you obtain your own travel insurance to cover your belongings.

Should I book a site in advance?

It's not always necessary and really depends on how organised or impulsive you want to be. We would recommend that maybe you book your first night. Remember when you hire one of our VW's you become a Priveledge member of the Camping and Caravanning Club who have great sites with really clean toilets! As a Priveledge member you benefit from members rates. See the link on our 'stuff we like' page for details.

Do I need a pitch with electric?

Again, not always necessary. Most of the equipment in your VW is operated from the leisure battery which is fully charged when you collect your vehicle. This should normally last a few days based on normal use. If however your are on a longer hire or you want to use the 240v sockets for your phone charger or hair straighteners then you'll need to plug in!

Can I bring my dog?

We are sorry but we plan to keep our vans allergen free and therefore we cannot accept any pets.

Can we view the campervans before we book?

You are very welcome to come and have a look at our campervans. Please call Doreen or Warren to arrange a mutually convenient day and time as our campervans could be out on hire and not always available.

How do I book?

  1. Phone us to check availability and complete a booking request. Contact Us
  2. We will confirm your provisional booking via email or phone and request a £150.00 deposit to secure the booking (usually by credit card).  Where the booking is less than six weeks from departure, the full balance is payable.
  3. Once the booking deposit is paid we allocate the van to you for the required period.
  4. We ask you to complete a Confirmed Bookings form.  This details the driver(s) information so that the required insurance cover can be put in place.
  5. The final balance invoice will be sent for payment six weeks before departure.
  6. We will contact you the week before your hire period starts to provide directions and make sure that you are happy with the arrangements.

Will I receive instructions for using the campervan?

Yes, you should allow at least 30 minutes for the check in process and a run through of the facilities and operating instructions.

Is a campervan difficult to drive ?

No, not difficult, but different from a modern day car and this takes a little time to adjust to.

Although our vans are new, they are built to the same design as the original 1970’s vehicles so, no power steering, no air conditioning and no servo assisted brakes.

This means you will need to adjust your driving style.  Take your time, don’t rush, allow a little time to get used to a more leisurely driving experience and let your adventure begin!
